It serves as the downtown area of Smyrna and features shopping, dining and entertainment. The Market Village, which is adjacent to the Village Green, is the social counterpart to the Green's business focus. The Village Green holds the library, community center, city fountain and City Hall. Smyrna is built around two central "villages": the Village Green and Market Village. The largest employer in Smyrna is the IBM Corporation.
The city, which was incorporated in 1872, holds the first city library in the state and received the Urban Land Institute's Award for Excellence, which rewards best practices in real estate development.
Residents celebrate the flower and the nickname twice a year with the Spring and Fall Jonquil Festivals. Homes for rent in this area are found in the "Jonquil City," nicknamed for the yellow flowers that bloom prominently throughout the town. Smyrna is a town of about 50,000 people located 10 miles northwest of Atlanta.
